Helping You Heal From Trauma.
Life can sometimes leave us feeling shaken or overwhelmed in ways we don’t fully understand.
Traumatic experiences – whether recent or from the past – can linger beneath the surface, affecting our emotions, thoughts, and daily functioning.
What is Trauma?
The word “trauma” comes from the Greek word for “wound.” Trauma is an emotional wound inside your mind which results for an upsetting experience. It can affect how you feel and think. Just like a physical wound can leave a scar, trauma can leave an emotional scar that makes you feel less flexible or less able to feel happy and safe.
Trauma could be the result of big events, such as natural disasters, accidents, abuse or sudden loss of a loved one; but trauma can also arise from ongoing stress like feeling rejected or ignored, conflict with a loved one, repeated bullying or issues at school or work.
Because trauma is about how a person reacts inside, the same event might be very upsetting to one person but not to another. It’s a very individual experience.
There are different types of trauma.......
Acute Trauma: A sudden, one-time event that causes distress, like a car accident, natural disaster, or assault.
Chronic Trauma: Ongoing or repeated stressful events, such as long-term abuse or constant bullying.
Complex Trauma refers to experiencing multiple traumatic events, often over a long period, like ongoing abuse or neglect, which can affect many parts of your life.
Developmental Trauma happens during childhood and is often tied to neglect or bad experiences with caregivers. It can interfere with how a person grows, learns, and forms relationships because those early experiences shape development.
Secondary or Vicarious Trauma: When someone who cares for others, like a nurse or therapist, starts to feel upset or worn down from hearing about others’ traumatic experiences.
